The Children in our school are members of a wide variety of sports clubs

Partnerships

We worked closely with Offaly Sports partnership in 2023/2024 to improve our athletic skills.  Johnny and Alannah from Offaly Sports partnership came to the school for two separate 6 week blocks to help improve our running. The children in 2nd, 3rd and 4th Class took part in the fast feet competition in 2023 and 2024

Our Cumann na mbunscol coach is Seán.  Seán comes to the school once a week to help us develop our hurling skills. Every week Seán chooses 2 coaches from 5th and 6th class to help him with the coaching.

Our Coach Michael from School Fitness Ireland has started to help us improve our balance and flexibility skills during our gymnastic instructions

In September 2023 the children in the senior room took part in Cycle Right to raise awareness around cycling safety and to encourage cycling to school.

Initiatives

As part of our Active Flag we have taken part in some initiatives and challenges they include

Relay Takeover

In celebration of the success of the Irish Team during the 2024 Olympic games and especially in celebration of the success of the Irish relay teams this past year. Here are some photos

Our Survey Results

In the second term of the school year 2023/2024 we carried out a survey of the children in our school.  Here are some of the results

Run around Europe Initiative

The whole school took part in the run around Europe initiative. Every child ran 10 minutes around the school everyday! We counted our laps with the goal of reaching certain places in Europe.  The senior and middle room's goal was Riga in Latvia and the Junior Room's goal was Paris.

Active Movement Break Challenges

We took part in the Olympic movement break challenge in 2023 where we took some inspiration from our Olympic and Paralympic heroes by taking part in daily Olympic movement breaks in the classroom

PAWS Water Safety

As part of the aquatics strand in the PE Curriculum the children learned about the importance of water safety through the PAWS lessons which are developed by the Irish Water Safety initiative. Below are some of the children with their certificates of participation.

Active Week 2024

Our very first active week took place in June 2024.  During this week the children got to try out a wide range of different sports. We had Athletics, Rugby, Soccer and Hurling coaches come to our school. Every morning started with a "Wake up Shake up" activity in the classroom.  The children also took part in a mini 5 a side soccer blitz throughout the week.  Our Active week also included our sports day.
